About this place
Tucked away in Bunkyo Ward's Hon-Komagome neighborhood, not far from Hakusan Station, Sushi Tatsumi offers a calm dining room in which to appreciate classic Edo-style sushi craftsmanship. The interior is anchored by an imposing, handsome counter, where seasonal place mats and chopstick rests subtly heighten the sense of occasion the moment you take your seat.
Beyond its careful hand-pressed sushi made with fresh catches, the restaurant stands out for a generous selection of seasonal dishes designed to accompany drinks. Guests can start with sashimi assortments tailored from single portions onward, then explore grilled fish that emphasizes natural flavor—such as Spanish mackerel marinated in Saikyo miso, plain-grilled conger eel (shirayaki), or salt-grilled sweetfish (ayu). From small bowls of surf clam with dressed miso (nuta) and sea cucumber in vinegar to simmered sea bream head, the menu caters thoughtfully to whatever drinkers fancy.
The nigiri showcases the chef’s practiced technique across each piece, from marinated tuna with just the right depth of seasoning to sweet, elegant orient clam (hamaguri) and glistening mackerel. An omakase course is also available, offering an easy way to leave the progression entirely in the chef's hands even if you are not accustomed to ordering à la carte at a sushi counter.
The beverage lineup covers draft and bottled beer alongside shochu and regional sake labels including Shimeharitsuru, Tedorigawa, and Dassai. The restaurant operates in the evening from 17:00 to 22:00, and reserving ahead makes for a smoother visit. Alongside eat-in service, takeout is also handled, including sushi assortments wrapped neatly in bamboo sheath to enjoy at home.
